So I found the artist but they are located overseas and the artist does not have a phone number/email/facebook for me to contact (they are strictly walk ins). Is it okay if I get the tattoo anyway?
You should take every reasonable step to contact that artist. It seems unlikely that they don’t have social media or some other contact information. I guarantee there is a way to contact them. Check instagram. Look for webpages. See if any other artists in that area know them. Due diligence.

Cliche? no. But it does’t really make sense from a conceptual standpoint. I mean, an anchor will hold you down. How about a life preserver or some other flotation device? Or how about a cool looking compass and map tattoo? They’re pretty popular these days, but if you find a good artist, he or she can come up with an original design.

I’m not totally against it, but if you are going through the trouble of getting a tattoo, why not get get a cool design that you can show people and be proud of?

I, myself plan on getting lots of tattoos but at least I've done my research and searched around for artists until I found one that had a style I enjoyed. Your blog is a brilliant idea for the fact that so many people rush into tattoos and get them done in houses and other non-sterile environments as well as choosing awful artists and BAD ideas, and it raises awareness to that. So, I'd like to thank you for running this blog.
